Tragically I’m reporting the third fatality in Tenerife today with emergency services saying they were called out around 2.30pm after a 54-year-old Czech woman fell some 15 metres while hiking in the El Batán trail to Punta del Hidalgo in the Barranco El Tomadero in La Laguna municipality. The woman had nearly reached the end of her walk, being just 3 km from Punta del Hidalgo when she fell, and a GES helicopter was dispatched to locate and rescue her. She was immobilized and winched on board the helicopter which then flew her to TFN La Laguna airport but although an ambulance was waiting to transfer her to hospital she suffered a cardiac arrest. Although helicopter and ambulance crews were initially able to resuscitate her and transfer her to HUC University Hospital in critical condition, sadly she died shortly after being admitted.
